This birth story is crazy! After preparing for and having my own VBAC at home, VBAC births have been extra special for me. I had recently just started adding video to my services when Makalah’s doula, Katie, told me about her. She was looking for someone to do a birth video, and I was so excited to offer that for her and join her as she welcomed her second baby into the world.
Katie let me know that Makalah was in labor one night before I went to bed and got woken up by a phone call early in the morning. She was pushing! He had been just 3cm dilated not even an hour before they called me and progressed the rest of the way really quickly. I was flying down the road on the 25-minute drive to their house, but unfortunately, I missed the moment of birth by just minutes! It was my first missed birth, and I was so devastated but also incredibly happy that Makalah got such an amazing birth.
I ended up staying with them for four hours after the birth to document their story, a slow then FAST birth, in a golden hour film. Now a complete family of four. Their birth photographer got them just minutes before the baby was born, and she ended up leaving soon after the birth, so I stepped in and snapped some images, too!
